Touch of the Gothic Whimsey: Where Old Tales Learn to Breathe Again
There is a particular hush that falls just before a ghost story begins — the kind of quiet that asks you to lean in and let the candlelight do its work.
That hush is where Touch of the Gothic Whimsey lives.
This podcast is a home for narrated folklore and the written word read aloud the way it was meant to be heard: gothic Victorian and Edwardian ghost stories, high fantasy in the tradition of Lord Dunsany and Lovecraft, and the legends of Brittany, Wales, and Cumbria — along with the old English dog legends and other tales that don't always get their due.
The first episode is "The Owl," a tale by Anatole Le Braz, the celebrated Breton folklorist and writer whose work preserved the oral traditions and ghost stories of Brittany — stories still taken seriously today across Wales and Brittany alike.
Here's what to expect:
New episodes release three times a week. Mondays and Wednesdays bring a single story, closing with a quick tarot card pull — unrelated to the tale itself, just a small ritual to send you off. Fridays are for anthologies: full collections gathered around a single thread of folklore or legend. I've already finished a full anthology of Lud-in-the-Mist, and one drawing from the Mabinogi is ready to go as well — with many more anthologies still to come.
Welsh and Cumbrian folklore — the old gods, the liminal places, the tales that have survived centuries of retelling — shape everything I create, from the historical tarot decks to the ghost stories I've narrated for years by candlelight. A podcast felt like the natural next thread to pull.
Each of these channels carries a deep catalog of narrations already waiting for you:
